Our sponsors make the Grand Porch Party possible! Insight Eye Care is one of our greatest supporters, sponsoring the GPP since almost the very start. Their location on Albert Street is so fresh and inviting (be sure to take design notes) and their staff is the best. To get to know them better, we asked their team a few porch-related questions. Here goes!
Best sunglasses to wear to a porch party?
The GPP is all about music so obviously Vinylize! They are handcrafted in Budapest, made with vinyl records and support all things musical. I just had the opportunity to tour their factory and showroom this past January and they let me hand-make my very own pair – with their expert assistance, of course!
Favourite local spot to catch a show?
We have a few favourite spots: Starlight, The Boathouse and Maxwell’s. I recently had the chance to see Bif Naked at Maxwell’s and she was absolutely amazing; she read excerpts from her book, providing some background history to her songs before she performed them.
Favourite spot to catch pre-show/post-show dinner?
B@TheMuseum pre or post-show if you’re in Kitchener, The Red House pre-show in Waterloo and Arabella Park pre or post-show if you don’t mind being in-between!
What is your favourite porch party band?
Rufus and Sam! Excellent mix of covers and originals and their voices were sublime.
What is your preferred porch drink?
Hmm, a local craft beer from Together We’re Bitter or perhaps a homemade iced tea.
Do you prefer a porch swing or Muskoka chair?
I would be that person lounging on the grass, but I would take a Muskoka chair over a porch swing – I want the open sky over my head!
If your company was a band, what would the band be called?
What was your favourite band growing up?
Incubus, Garbage, Bush, No Doubt, Greenday, The Wallflowers, Nirvana, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Oasis, umm… the 90’s were awesome!
Who would you love to see perform at Grand Porch Party?
Beyonce. But for real, how about Jordan Alexander? She lives in Toronto and recently opened for Bif Naked and Jully Black. Her voice is pristine and her lyrics are excellent 🙂
