We agree — it IS a grand time for porch parties!

Martin DeGroot, resident arts columnist for The Waterloo Region Record, hit the nail on the head with his column on Saturday about the Grand Porch Party, and the value of porches in general.

“[Porches] are not rare. But they are a precious, vulnerable, non-renewable resource,” he writes. As air-conditioning renders the breezy front porch less of a necessity, and contemporary home designs lack the front porches of former years, it adds to the reasons “to be grateful for the generosity of neighbours willing to share their porches and front yards with all of us for an afternoon.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Here’s to the porch hosts! And here’s to another great event coming to a porch near you on June 8. See you there.

About grandporchparty

The Grand Porch Party is an annual neighbourhood music event where we take over the porches, and then the streets, for some fab early-summer music. First launched in 2011.
