Like all amazing events, our success is partly due to the shining faces that lend hands left and right. We’ve got a variety of volunteer positions that we’re recruiting for. There are positions available both before the event, and during the porch party. Here’s what’s lined up for 2014:
Pre-GPP volunteer positions
A volunteer is needed to sew ties on 24 volunteer vests during the month of May starting sometime the week of May 12.
Postering Team (FULL)
Do you walk, push a stroller or ride a bike in the Uptown West Neighbourhood and beyond? This might be a position for you. Might be a good family volunteering opportunity. Team members put up about 25 posters in an assigned area between Saturday May 24 and Saturday May 31.
Day of event volunteer positions
Host Sign and General Sign Installation and Takedown Teams
Do you like to walk or bike (with a trailer) in the neighbourhood and do a bit of exercise on the way? These teams will install and takedown corplast signs on the Grand Porch Party weekend.
Roaming Ambassador Team – a priority team!
Do you like chatting to and helping people? Do you love the Grand Porch Party? This position might be for you. Team members will help keep people safe by encouraging patrons to keep to the sidewalks and will provide general information about the event. Team members will walk or bike an assigned route in the neighbourhood for a 60-90 minute shift between 2 pm and 5 pm the day of the event.
Water and Freezie Team & UWNA Chat Lounge Team
Do you have a people-focused approach? Do you like helping others? Then this position might be for you. This team will operate a station where free drinking water will be provided to patrons to refill their water bottles. One hour shift scheduled between 2 pm and 5 pm day of the event.
Children’s Music Garden Team
Are you silly and like to dance about? Do you like helping children and their families have fun and play? Then this might be the role for you. This team will welcome families and introduce them to the many available activities. At least a 1-hour shift during the event.
If any of these positions sound up your alley, drop Rachel, our stellar volunteer coordinator, a line (firstname.lastname@example.org). Or if you’re in the neighbourhood, swing by 62 Roslin Ave. S. Thursday May 8, 2014, 6:30- 7:30pm to sign up!
