Continuing on with sponsor week here at the Grand Porch Party, we take our eyes over to our first musician sponsor, Insight Eye Care.
Located at 239 Weber St. N in Waterloo, Insight Eye Care is a long-time supporter of our wee event. Insight has six optometrists on staff, and a dedication to independent business with a modern flare.
We asked Insight a few questions about their business, their dedication to the community, and why they wanted to get involved with the GPP.
What is your business or organization all about?
Insight is an independent optometry and eyewear boutique featuring globally sourced handcrafted frames with personality. Many of our collections use reclaimed materials like vintage vinyl records (Vinylize), recycled/biodegradable plastics (Zeal) and wood from the bottom of the Mississippi River (Drift).
How did your business or organization start?
Insight has been around for 30+ years, but three years ago Dr. Tim Sloss rebranded and revamped the office, taking everything to a new level. We have a deeply-rooted history in the optical industry, and always look for eyewear that will lead fashion.
Why did you get involved with the Grand Porch Party?
Many of the staff at Insight are huge music buffs and we love giving back to the community in a way that supports local musicians.
How else do you get involved with the community?
We love taking the opportunity to get creative. At Fashion for Life and Winter Wonderland, we create wearable art to complement our eyewear while supporting the Canadian Cancer Society and St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, respectively. This year we will also be a sponsor at tri-Pride. We are an energetic group of professionals and we love networking with other local, independent shops!
Are you involved in the independent music or arts community in KW?
A few of our staff members are directly/indirectly involved in the music and arts community in KW. We have a seamstress, a singer, a photographer, an artist and a writer at Insight and many of us simply enjoy the pleasure of a local concert or art exhibit.
Do you have any cool environmental initiatives you are working on?
We are always looking for cool new eyewear lines with an environmental edge. Zeal Optics, one of the brands we carry, has introduced their first 100% biodegradable frame and we are excited to help support this sustainable movement in the eyewear industry.
