The Grand Porch Party is all about sharing the love, so today we’re going to shine the spotlight on the wonderful business that are doing the most awesome thing: They’re paying our musicians, and feeding them too.
Four awesome sponsors have come forward to make sure GPP musicians get more than just admiration and applause on Sunday, June 10 (‘cos, while those things are great, they don’t pay the bills).
Our major sponsor, The Tamarack Institute for Community Engagement, is dedicated to the art and science of community engagement and collaborative leadership. Tamarack is all about addressing complex community issues and creating positive change. Check out their website for community-building resources, advice, and its online magazine Engage!.
Insight Eye Care, on Weber Street North in Waterloo, is also pitching in for the musician fund. Why an eye care sponsor for a music event? Because it’s summer, and that means sunglasses. Seriously, people, protect your eyes. I’m Australian. I mean it. (And yes, the devastatingly handsome model in their posters WILL be there on the day. Just sayin’.)
We are also proud to announce that Words Worth Books, everyone’s favourite local bookstore, is not only sponsoring us financially: They’re lending us a staff member to help on the day, AND giving us some prize-packs to offer on the day. (Raffle? Silent auction? We’re not sure yet, but visit the Merch Porch on the day to find out!)
The performers will receive delicious lunches care of The Princess Cafe. The Princess Cafe did this last year too, and the musicians loved it. We can honestly say that the GPP is powered by absolute deliciousness. And The Princess Cinemas has run our ad on-screen, helping us get the word out. Thanks!
All of the money donated to the GPP by our sponsors is going directly to performers. This is really important, because while music is adds richness to all of our lives, it rarely delivers riches to its creators. Our honorariums aren’t going to change their worlds, but they will show a tiny glimpse of our huge appreciation.
So thank-you to all of our sponsors. Your support means we can give honorariums to our musicians, which is not a minor thing. It also gives us volunteer organizers a boost to know you support our vision.
