It’s a simple concept: Invite local musicians to play on front porches in Uptown West Waterloo, and let the public to wander the streets for three hours of free entertainment.
But the organizers of the Grand Porch Party, to be held in Uptown West Waterloo on Sunday, June 10, hope this easy, arty afternoon will produce some complex results: connecting people with their local environment; sharing streets; and seeing our everyday spaces in a new way.
“Ordinary things are often extraordinary – it just takes a different perspective to see it,” says GPP organizer Tenille Bonoguore.
That’s why the GPP has invited rare Charitable Research Reserve to be its official awareness-raising partner for this year’s event. Rare does amazing work in our region, and works so hard to care for a river system that we all impact – and that impacts us all. They’ll have information available on the day, and will be the recipient of any donations people choose to give on the day.
So come and wander the musical streets of the GPP. By taking time to connect, we might just be able to build a better world.
